Merle was born in Poetry, Texas to the late Vivian (Pankey) and Raymond Stiles. She graduated Kaufman High School in 1935. She met and married the love of her life, James H Dickinson in 1936 after a chance meeting at church. She told the story that if it weren't for her missing the bus to college due to appendicitis they would not have met. She followed Christ from a young age. Merle traveled the world with Jimmy, who was a Chaplain in the Air Force; as well as her two young daughters. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in English and Sociology and taught in public schools in Fort Worth, San Antonio, Del Rio, Corpus Christi, and Livermore, CA. Additionally, international schools in France, Japan and the Philipines. She was recognized as a Master teacher. After retirement, she moved to the DFW area to be closer to her family. She was very active in FBC, Garland where she instantly made many lifelong friends. She was specifically active in the Senior Adult groups, ministering and tutoring children and singing in the choir. Studying the Bible was always a focus of Merle's. Summers were spent in her backyard pool with grandchildren and family. She rarely missed a Ranger's baseball game. She continued her love of travel with church groups. She enriched every life she touched and loved to tell of her adventures. Her home was filled with art and furnishings from her travels.

Preceded in death by her husband, James H Dickinson, parents Vivian and Raymond Stiles, brother Fred Stiles and sister Georgia Bishop. Survivors include sister Virginia Walker of Fort Worth, daughters Genia Tucker of Refugio, TX and husband Neil, and Joy Kraakevik of Garland, TX. Four granddaughters: Joyce Miller of Houston, TX and husband Danny, Kay Kraakevik Martin of Scurry, TX and husband Tommy, Jan Kneupper of Point Comfort, TX and husband Cary, and Jeanne Trieger of Fort Worth, TX. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and 10 great grand children. Pallbearers will be Thomas Martin, Jr., Jason Miller, Andrew Miller, Seth Miller, Dylan Euton and Cary Kneupper. Honorary pallbearers will be Neil Tucker, Ty Burton, Jeffrey Stiles, Michael Bishop, Kenneth Farenick, Robert Ryan, Cody Kneupper, Shay Kneupper, Lane Kneupper, Jose Garza, Ron Ronalder and Thomas Crumpton II.
