Mary Jayne Harper

January 2, 1923 — May 25, 2016

Mary "Jayne" Harper went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Her devotion and faith in God made her a strong warrior for Christ.

Jayne was born to Florence and E.D. Hamilton in Weatherford, Texas, on January, 2 1923. After graduation from Talco High School, she married the love of her life, Joseph "Joe" Harper in 1940. They were inseparable for 61 years when Joe went home to heaven in September, 2001.

Jayne attended Paris Jr. College in Paris, Texas, while Joe was away three years overseas in the Navy fighting at Normandy. Jayne also attended the University of Texas at Austin and began teaching in Kyle, Texas. She graduated from San Marcus State University with a BS in Drama. Jayne also received a Psychology certificate from Sam Houston University. She received her Masters in Elementary Education from Texas Wesleyan University. She taught for 33 years and retired as an Associate Director of Special Education in Tomball, Texas.

After retirement from education, Jayne and Joe spent 30 years in the Texas Criminal Justice System and served as a chaplain, teacher, and counselor. They both volunteered in a Soup Kitchen for three years in Tyler, Texas. Joe and Jayne served 13 years as Home Missionaries in the Texas Southern Baptist Association.

Jayne is survived by nieces and nephews, great~nieces and great~nephews and many, many friends who all cherish and treasure her memory.

Jayne was devoted to her church, Brookhaven Church, where she was a ray of sunshine with her sweet hugs and beautiful smile! She was willing and faithful to serve in any capacity.

Internment will be 12:30 Saturday, May 28, 2016, at DFW National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life service Sunday, May 29, 2016, at 2:00, at Brookhaven Church, 8412 Stacy Road, Suite 100, McKinney, Texas.
