Mary Jean Boswell

August 18, 1939 — February 4, 2020

Mary Jean Boswell age 80 passed away peacefully on February 4, 2020 surrounded by family and friends. She had fought a long hard battle with cancer and heart problems for the last 12 years. Born August 18, 1939 in Dangerfield, Texas. Born to Grady Nickle McGee from Linden, Texas and Margery Elizabeth Smith from Dangerfield, Texas. Mary Jean was born in the family home in Dangerfield. She lived there until 1940 and then moved to Mount Pleasant, Texas. In 1950 her family moved to Beaumont where they lived for several years. She attended French High School where she had an abundance of friends and was loved by all. She graduated in 1957 and attended several class reunions.

She married Bob Boswell on June 11, 1964 in Dallas, Texas and became an instant bonus mom to 3 children. They later added 2 more children to their family. Mary Jean loved to love on people. Her life was a living example of her favorite bible verse, Ephesians 4:32; "And be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." Mary Jean served others like Christ called her to do. She was on numerous boards and volunteer positions. She served on PTA boards, WYCA in Garland, Southern Belles Booster Clubs, Junior Leagues and Camp John Mark; to name a few. She was very active with her friend groups in Garland: Critics Choice Book Club, birthday groups, Tour of homes, and Church groups. She was always ready to open her home to anyone who needed it or to host a party.

Mary Jean and her family have been members of First Baptist Garland since 1968 where they were very active in their Sunday School group and other church groups. She loved to travel, especially with her grandchildren. Her and Bob devoted their lives to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Together they have 26 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren with 2 more due this summer. Mary Jean was the happiest when there was children's laughter and splashing coming from their pool.

She is welcomed into heaven by in her father who passed away in 1951, her mother who passed in 1983, a sister-in-law, nephews and several cousins. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Bob Boswell; Children: Steve Boswell and wife Gayle of Minnesota; Susie Dunham and husband Dan of Sachse, Texas; Lori Edel and husband Gary of Minnesota; Scott Boswell and wife Lisa of Sachse, Texas; Kari Scherf and husband Patrick of Sachse, Texas; her brother Grady Smith and wife Betty of Beaumont, Texas; a niece Glenda Ferguson and her family of Beaumont, Texas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and so many friends who are like family. As well as her long-time care givers Paula Flores and Jared Koehler.
