Marvin Holman, 89, of Allen, TX, died December 25, 2012, in McKinney, TX, after complications from COPD and pneumonia.
Marvin was born on April 25, 1923 in Cordell, OK, one of 9 children, of the late Joseph and Cora Holman. He grew up in western Oklahoma and graduated high school in Thomas, OK.
Shortly after graduation, Mr. Holman became part of the "Greatest Generation" when he was enlisted in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a flight dispatcher and radio operator stationed primarily in Fresno and Glendale, CA. After his honorable discharge, he moved back to Thomas, OK and joined the Army Air Force Reserves.
Marvin married Elaine Williams, a teacher in Thomas, on December, 23, 1950 at Thomas, OK. In 1954, the family moved to Pampa, TX. He worked in the wholesale/retail dairy business for Sealtest before buying his business from Sealtest. He remained self-employed, associated with Sealtest and Plains Creamery, until he retired around 1993. He was a member of the Pampa Optimist Club and loved coaching Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball. He was the President of Pampa Optimist Club from 1961-1962.
Marvin is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Pam Holman, of Allen, TX; grandson, Chris Holman and his wife Wendi, and great-grandson, Dylan, all of Bloomington, IL. His wife and all of his brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Arrangements for Marvin’s cremation are being managed by Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in McKinney, TX. Ceremonies/services are pending, but planned for the spring in Pampa, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making donations to: (1) Pampa Optimist Youth Club - 601 E Craven Ave, Pampa, TX 79065; or (2) Pampa Education Foundation - P.O. Box 1045, Pampa, TX 79066.
