Marion Alice Lanning

April 21, 1928 — December 12, 2013

Away
I cannot say and I will not say
That she is dead, she is just away.
With a cheery smile and a wave of hand
She has wandered into an unknown land;
And left us dreaming how very fair
Its needs must be, since she lingers there.
And you-oh you, who the wildest yearn
From the old-time step and the glad return-
Think of her faring on, as dear
In the love of there, as the love of here
Think of her still the same way, I say;
She is not dead, she is just away.

James Whitcomb Riley, American poet (1849 - 1916)

Mom is away at last; in the arms of Dad.as it always was. We are left to celebrate her life and miss her everyday until we see her again. She leaves behind the three children she gave life, Carolyn, Earl and I, Judy, as well as the children she loved as though she had provided them life herself, Judy's husband, Walt, Carolyn's husband, Jerry and Earl's wife, Debbie. The greatest joys of her life, her grandchildren and great grandchildren , were oh so lucky to have her and will miss her beyond measure.
And what, you may ask will we remember most about this incredible woman? Her dogged determination, unflagging optimism and endless love and trust in her family.
But equally and with much more happiness, we will remember the Mom who always had enough to feed unexpected guests, who popped home during her break from work on Christmas, dressed head to toe in her white nurse's uniform, peaked cap and all; to baste the turkey, stir the gravy, test the seasoning on the best stuffing on earth and put the homemade cherry pie (Daddy's favorite) in the oven. All so that dinner would be on the table at 4 for ten to fifteen.whoever arrived!
As for me, I will forever smile when I think of frog legs, "Marionisms", the day of the "fook attack", Sunday drives, an orange Honda and the Mom who cradled her newborn grandson in her arms and sang "Bi-oh-bi-baby." in the wee hours of the morning.
Remembrances will be gratefully received by the Alzheimer's Association at www.alzfdn.org, in honor of Marion Lanning. Marion will be interred at a private family ceremony at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 17th, where she will join Dad, as it always was.
