Marilyn Jean Rowan

March 27, 1940 — November 17, 2017

Marilyn Jean Rowan, age 77 of Princeton, Texas, passed away on November 17, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 27, 1940 in Kaufman, Texas to Rufus Jessie and Iva (Pruitt) Rhodes. She married Loy Dean “L.D.” Rowan on June 26, 1975 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they were married for thirty-three years before he preceded her in death in November 2008. Marilyn worked for Sears for over twenty years. After her time at Sears, she sold produce at the Dallas Farmers Market for many years, before going to work for EZ Mart. She retired from EZ Mart in 1996. Marilyn was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mesquite for more than twenty years.

Marilyn enjoyed playing cards with Linda, Kay, and Sue, as well as playing bingo and taking trips to Choctaw and Louisiana. These were fun times that brought Marilyn much joy and laughter. She also had two very special fur babies named Bella and Stella. Marilyn treated them like her own children, and she spoiled them rotten. She had so much love to give, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were life-long recipients of that love. Marilyn’s passing has left a hole in their hearts that can never be filled, but their memories and shared stories of her will keep her close to them forever.

Marilyn is survived by her six children, Leta Gaddis and husband, Wayne of Bristol, Texas, Mickey Dixon and wife, Kathy of Princeton, Texas, Delores Glover and husband, Rick of Princeton, Texas, Marilyn Yarbro and husband, Dale of Blue Ridge, Texas, Becky Malone and Stephen Welborn of Princeton, Texas, and Sheila Lockhart and husband, Robert of McKinney, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Linda McGuire and Kay Mitchum; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Rowan; her parents, Rufus and Iva Rhodes; two brothers, R.C. Rhodes and Mac Rhodes; and one sister, Wanda Smith.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2017 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in McKinney. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 601 S. Tennessee St., McKinney, Texas 75069 with Brother Duane Myers officiating.
