Maria Elena Maldonado, de 79 años, pasó a la presencia del Señor en su hogar en Nevada, Texas, el 10 de julio de 2024. Nacida el 24 de diciembre de 1944 en Guapota, Colombia, vivió una vida llena y amorosa. Fue la amada esposa de Alirio Maldonado y una querida hija, hermana, madre, abuela y bisabuela.
Maria Elena deja atrás a su esposo de 56 años, Alirio Maldonado; su hijo Richard Maldonado (esposa Kimberly); su hija Janet Duncan (esposo Max); su hija Zaida Saldivar (esposo Ronald); su hija Diane Gaston (esposo David); sus nietos, quienes cariñosamente la llamaban “Noni,” Caleb Maldonado (esposa Kelly), Naomi Duncan, Lesley Duncan, Jesus Duncan, Anna Moore (esposo Casey), Camryn Richardson (esposo Brendan), Elijah Saldivar, Victoria Gaston, Anderson Hoefer y William Gaston; sus bisnietos Donald Case Maldonado, Stella Mae Maldonado, Elena Kai Moore y Camila Ezri Moore; su hermano Sixto Nino y su hermana Rosalba Giraldo; y numerosos primos, sobrinas y sobrinos. Maria Elena se casó con su esposo Alirio el 6 de abril de 1968 en Bucaramanga, Colombia. Fue la primera de su familia en emigrar a los Estados Unidos en busca del sueño americano, acompañada por el amor de su vida. Dedicó su vida a criar a sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos, inculcándoles los valores de la fe, la ética del trabajo y el compromiso. Su vida fue enriquecida con su iglesia local, Northplace Español; pasando tiempo con su familia reunida alrededor de la mesa, disfrutando de comidas tradicionales colombianas que ella preparaba con amor, incluyendo su famoso flan; y dando regalos a familiares y amigos.
Amada por todos los que la conocieron, Maria Elena será sinceramente extrañada por su querida familia y sus fieles amigos. Su legado de amor, fe y familia continuará inspirando y guiando a sus descendientes por generaciones. Se llevará a cabo un servicio conmemorativo el viernes 19 de julio a las 4 p.m. en Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home en Lavon, Texas.

Maria Elena Maldonado, aged 79, peacefully passed into the presence of the Lord at her home in Nevada, Texas on July 10, 2024. Born on December 24, 1944, in Guapota, Colombia, she lived a full and loving life. She was the beloved wife of Alirio Maldonado and a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Maria Elena is survived by her husband of 56 years, Alirio Maldonado; her son Richard Maldonado (wife Kimberly); daughter Janet Duncan (husband Max); daughter Zaida Saldivar (husband Ronald); daughter Diane Gaston (husband David); her grandchildren, who lovingly call her “Noni,” Caleb Maldonado (wife Kelly), Naomi Duncan, Lesley Duncan, Jesus Duncan, Anna Moore (husband Casey), Camryn Richardson (husband Brendan), Elijah Saldivar, Victoria Gaston, Anderson Hoefer, and William Gaston; her great-grandchildren Donald Case Maldonado, Stella Mae Maldonado, Elena Kai Moore, and Camila Ezri Moore; her brother Sixto Nino and sister Rosalba Giraldo; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Silvio Nino and Isabel Nino, and her brother Adriano Nino.
Maria Elena married her husband Alirio on April 6, 1968, in Bucaramanga, Colombia. She was the first in her family to migrate to the United States in pursuit of the American dream, accompanied by the love of her life. She dedicated her life to raising her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, instilling in them the values of faith, work ethic, and commitment. Her life was enriched by her home church, Northplace Español; spending time with her family gathered around the table, enjoying traditional Colombian meals that she lovingly prepared, including her fan-favorite flan; and giving gifts to family and friends.
Beloved by all who met her, Maria Elena will be sincerely missed by her loving family and devoted friends. Her legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to inspire and guide her descendants for generations to come. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 19, at 4 p.m. at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Lavon, Texas.
