Margaret P. Ross

February 23, 1923 — August 4, 2017

Margaret “Peggy” P. Ross, age 94 of McKinney, TX, passed away on August 4, 2017. She was born on February 23, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Dr. Frederick William and Edith (Cragg) Plugge. Peggy married Gusty A. Ross in East Greenwich, Rhode Island in 1946. She worked as a baker for the East Greenwich Rhode Island School District for many years. In 2009, Peggy moved to Sunnyvale, Texas, and in 2011, she moved to McKinney. She was a member of Rejoice Lutheran Church in Frisco, Texas.

Peggy and Gusty bought land in East Greenwich after WWII, built their home there, raised their children and grew most of their own food. She and Gusty were organic gardeners and raised vegetables, berries, grapes, fruits, and chickens to feed their growing family. Peggy and Gusty spent much of their time picking their fruits, and vegetables, canning and freezing the extra produce, as well as making jams and jellies from the fruit and berries. As their children left home, they grew less produce and devoted their time to raising roses, lilies, and many other beautiful flowers both indoor and outdoor types. She could grow anything!

Peggy enjoyed baking, knitting, and crocheting and was an avid reader. Peggy was a giving person, and she spent many hours crocheting baptismal blankets for the babies at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in West Warwick, Rhode Island church, as well as prayer shawls for the members of the congregation. She had a soft spot for babies, and she would never pass up the opportunity to speak to them at church. Peggy also loved flowers, birds, and any kind of animal. She was a blessing to all who knew and loved her, and her presence in this world will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on forever through the sharing of stories by family and friends.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Edith Fife and husband, Lee of McKinney, Texas; son, Daniel A. Ross and wife, Joanne of Warwick, Rhode Island; four granddaughters, Kimberly Smith and husband, Michael of Lewisville, Texas, Kristin Cipriano and husband, Matt of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Leah Neumann and husband, Scott of Frisco, Texas, and Wendy Nahrgang of Warwick, Rhode Island; two grandsons, Justin Ross of Warwick, Rhode Island, and Jason Ross of Chesapeake, Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Adam King of Warwick, Rhode Island, Max Neumann of Frisco, Texas, Annaka Neumann of Frisco, Texas, and Brady Nahrgang of Warwick, Rhode Island; nephew, Fred Barnes and wife, Donna of Chesapeake, VA; and two very special friends, Marilyn Nelson and Beverly Neumann.
