Margaret Virginia Dupree
December 17, 1928 — May 25, 2017
Margaret Virginia Hillin Dupree (Margie), 88, loving mother, sister, grand- and great- grandmother of Denison, TX , went through Heaven’s gates in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Homestead of Denison on Reba MacEntire Lane. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 2 PM at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, 221 W 5th St in her hometown of Rusk, TX. Mrs. Dupree was born December 17, 1928 to the late Gerald and Thelma Hillin in Ponta, TX. Margie graduated from San Jacinto High School of Houston, TX in 1946 and worked at office jobs in Houston before marrying Grady E. Dupree in 1947.
Moving to Rusk, TX, she and Grady raised three sons on a dairy farm. Margie served as a Cub Scout den-mother and worked as a bank office secretary in Rusk. She divorced in 1982 and moved to Beaumont, TX where she worked in a dermatologist’s office and then as an office assistant in a Beaumont nursing home until 1995. After retiring, Margie relished being a volunteer during the summers from 1998 until 2007 in Estes Park, CO at the YMCA of the Rockies. She delighted in the many friends she met in Estes Park as they worked, hiked and enjoyed the mountain sights.
Her travels also took her to other parts of the US and even overseas. England, France, Germany and Switzerland were on her list of places visited. Closer to home, Mom enjoyed gardening, playing (and winning, sometimes at all costs) card games, being a member of the Red Hat Society and family visits. This sweet lady known as Mom, Margie, Granny, and Nana will surely be missed by family and friends she leaves in the area. Enjoy praising The Lord, Mom!
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald (d.1968) and Thelma (d. 1980) Hillin, her sons, Roy Keith Dupree (d.1963) and Steve E Dupree (d. 2008) and her divorced husband Grady Ernest Dupree (d. 1999).
She is survived by her son Kenneth Gregg Dupree and spouse Dana Cox Dupree of McKinney, TX; granddaughter Stacy Dupree Brusenhan and spouse Brad Brusenhan of Lewisville, TX; grandson Josh Dupree of McKinney, TX; daughter-in-law Shelley Barton Dupree of Raleigh, NC; and great-granddaughters Erin Moore and Emma Moore of Frisco, TX.
She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Anne Mauldin and husband Bobby of Oceanside, CA; one aunt, Darlene Gilbert and husband, Frank, of Marquez, TX; and a sister –in-law, Marilyn Hillin, of Erie, PA.
