Lynda Vargas

October 15, 1952 — January 9, 2018

Lynda “Diane” Cortez Vargas, 65, of Rowlett, Texas passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2018 at her home in Prosper, Texas.

Diane was born in Washington D.C. while her father served as a US Marine. Diane grew up in San Antonio, TX and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1970. She and her loving husband raised their girls in Garland, TX and later in Rowlett, TX.


Diane was an amazing person. She was a wonderful, loving, thoughtful mother. She was compassionate, selfless and always putting others before herself. She cared so much about daughters and loved her grandkids beyond measure. Diane and Eddie were married for 42 years and she treasured every minute of it. Her family was her world. She will be greatly missed.


Diane is survived by her husband, Edward Michael Vargas, also of Rowlett & Prosper, Texas. Her daughters: Felicia Russell & husband Jason of Rowlett, Stacey Milligan & husband Chad of Rowlett, and Carissa Vargas-Flournoy & husband Jeff Flournoy of Prosper. Her grandchildren: Liliana & Coit Russell, Jason Baglio, Westyn, Mychael & Cheyenne Magnuson, Zach Flournoy & wife Sarah Flournoy, David, Caleb, Catelynn Flournoy and Sophia Killian. She is preceded in death by grandchildren: Jacob, Madison, Elizabeth & Kathryn Flournoy.


Diane is also survived by her parents Gilbert Sr & Sophie Cortez, four siblings: Gilbert Cortez Jr & wife Diana, William “Bill” Cortez & wife Sylvia, David Cortez and Gina Gray & husband Scott. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins as well as many family friends who simply knew her as “mom” or “Nan”.

There will be a reception to follow at an off site location, details will be given at the funeral. All are welcome to help celebrate her life.
