Luke Collett

December 5, 1921 — July 16, 2019

Born on December 5, 1921, in Dallas, Texas, Luke was the seventh child of Angelo and Carrie Catina Collett. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Adamson High School.

He lived in Dallas most of his life and served four years in the U.S. Navy, stationed at San Bruno Naval Air Station in San Francisco, CA. During that time, he played on several local semi-pro baseball teams and received a certificate in recognition of his participation on the U.S.B.A.S. baseball team. He received an honorable discharge in October 1945. After his military service he also played on local semi-pro teams in the Dallas area.

Luke was a people person and could find a friend anywhere he went. He loved to travel and made many trips with family or friends to places in the states and abroad. He and Charlotte were married in 1962 and he became active at Casa View Baptist Church where he coached young men's baseball teams and served several years as President of the White Rock Churches Athletic Association. He and Charlotte also worked with youth groups on many mission trips.

In 2006 he and Charlotte joined First Baptist Church of Garland where he was ordained as a deacon and served in that active capacity as long as his health permitted. He was later voted Deacon Emeritus. He also enjoyed singing in the FBCG Praise Singers Choir. He loved the FBCG Friendship House and worked regularly in the Christmas Room, checking batteries and helping to refurbish toys for gift giving.

Luke was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, one brother, and stepdaughter, Terri Stockton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years; daughters, Sharyn and husband Steve Gats of Crowley and Julie Thomas of Frisco; sons, Richard and wife Patti Collett of Fort Worth and Dave and wife Margaret Collett of McKinney; 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Garland Building Fund.
