Louis Joseph Tremblay

Louis Joseph Tremblay peacefully passed into the hands of his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2023 at his home in McKinney, Texas surrounded by his family. He was eighty-five years old.  

Louis was born on March 24, 1938, in Lebanon, New Hampshire to Wilfred Joseph Tremblay Sr. and Mary Jeanne (Boisvert) Tremblay, whose families were both French-speaking immigrants to New Hampshire from Quebec Province in Canada.

Louis grew up in a very devout Catholic family being the seventh of ten children.  In his youth, he attended the school of his local Parish - Sacred Heart, which helped to form his life-long love of education and Catholic devotion.  He briefly attended Lebanon High School before transferring on scholarship to Kimball Union Academy located in Meriden, NH.  During his high school career, he excelled in a variety of athletics including football, baseball and alpine skiing.  In 1957, he joined the US Army and was assigned to a competitive ski and rescue team based out of Berchtesgaden, Germany.  He toured and skied the great peaks of the Alps for two years.

Returning home from the service, Louis met the love of his life, Marian V. Taylor.  They married shortly thereafter on Thanksgiving Day, 1962 in Louis’ hometown of Lebanon, NH.

Louis earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Plymouth State College, begin his vocation in the Lebanon school system and had two children (Louann and Eric).  His career in education spanned four decades as a high school math/science teacher and high school principal.

 One of his proudest achievements was running a Dartmouth College affiliated education program for under-privileged youth known as ‘A Better Chance’ (ABC program).  He was a tireless contributor to his local community, volunteering year after year to coach various youth athletic programs such as ice hockey, field hockey, soccer and golf.  Louis was very active in his church as a long-serving lectern and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

After retiring from his career in education, Louis and Marian moved to McKinney, Texas to be near their daughter to help raise the grandchildren.  Here he indulged his love of golf and discovered the great friendships of his later years that we affectionately called ‘the golf group’.

There are no words that can adequately capture the person and life of Louis Tremblay. He was a devoted son of the Roman Catholic church, exemplifying in his life the virtues of charity, generosity, piety, humility and self-sacrifice.  He will always remain in our memory - a most holy soul.

Louis is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Marian Tremblay; two children Louann Koustoubardis and Eric Tremblay (Stephanie); six grandchildren Nicholas, Nicole, Michelle, Mikenzie (Colman), Jakob, Tyler; two great grandchildren, Colman II and Bernadette; siblings, Leon, Annette, John and Louise.  He is predeceased by his siblings, Roger, Roland, Victor, Willie and Teresa.

A memorial service will be arranged at a future date in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
