Lorraine Schmidt Govert

Lorraine Schmidt Govert, age 88, passed May 6, 2016 in McKinney, TX. She was born February 19, 1928 in Hammond, IN, grew up in Highland, IN, raised eight children in Griffith, IN, and moved toTexas in 1989. In Indiana, she was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Phi Epsilon Kappa Sorority, Inland's bowling and golf league. After retirement from the Inland Steel Medical Clinic, she moved to Texas, where she spent her final 27 years. In Texas, she was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, the St. Jude's Women's Club and Bereavement Committee, Richardson Reviewers Book Club, area Bunco groups, the Chick-a-dees and Hallmark Ladies Clubs and enjoyed competitive games with friends at the Grand Texan Independent Senior Community where she spent her last 15 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Edith Schmidt, sister, Norma Lengyel and son-in-law, Bill Wells. She is survived by her eight children: Judy Dorsey of Plano, TX, Jerry (Diane) Govert of Terrace Park, OH, David (Margaret) Govert of Griffith, IN, Linda (Phil Rains) Schanlaub of Rochester, IN, Brad (Cherri) Govert of Cincinnati, OH, Jeff (Pam) Govert of Crown Point, IN, Amy Wells of Fairview, TX and Chris Govert of Merrillville, IN; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Carol) Schmidt of Highland, IN; dear friends, Gary and Anne Campbell; and a host of family and friends in both Indiana and Texas. Services: Visitation on Thursday, May, 12, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Charles W. Smith Funeral Home, 611 S. Tennessee St., McKinney, TX. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 13, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., St. Jude's Catholic Church, 1515 N. Greenville Ave., Allen, TX, with reception to follow in the St. Jude's Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lorraine Govert's name to St. Jude's Church, Bell Tower Fund, 1515 N. Greenville Ave., Allen, TX 75002.
