After a tough battle with cancer, family and friends lost their beloved Lori Gooch McCathrin on Sunday, February 16, 2020. Lori was born on December 29, 1959, to W.D. "Dub" and Freda Gooch, in Greenville, Texas. She grew up near Lake Tawakoni. Lori is survived by her loving husband, David McCathrin, her only son, William Harrell, and wife Haley, and her three grandchildren, Micah, Sophia, and Elias. She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
Lori met and married the love of her life on March 8, 2012. She and David took care of each other, laughed together, loved one another, and enjoyed life. Lori loved singing and dancing along with her Christian music station, traveling to great places with her husband David, bragging about her grandbabies, and enjoyed shows like NCIS and The Pioneer Woman – Oklahoma's Ree Drummond's cooking show.
Lori servantly worked in education for over 25 years, 12 of those with Royse City ISD, and then her last 14 years at Region 10 ESC. She masterfully handled multiple duties and, most importantly, made many friends who loved her dearly. When asked, one of her closest co-workers described Lori in this way: "Lori was the most giving person. When you stepped into her office, she would stop what she was doing to help. She never said no." Everyone will miss her dedication, expertise, her sweet southern voice, her infinite patience, gentle spirit and her sincere love of people. All who knew Lori will fondly remember when she became frustrated or upset, her favorite saying: "shoot a monkey".
Lori's life will be celebrated in service on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home of Lavon, Texas
