Linda Faye Butler

March 4, 1951 — February 7, 2017

Linda Butler, 65, born in Granite City, Illinois to Gabriel and Vida (Sexton) Grandmaison, passed away February 7th, 2017 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, in Garland. She was preceded in death by both parents, and three brothers, Dale, Donald and Dennis. She is survived by her husband Rick, Sister Pat Chapman, two nephews and four nieces.

Linda met her husband Rick in April of 1969 and they became engaged in August of 1970 and later married July 4th, 1971. At the time of her death they had been married for almost 46 wonderful years. Linda and Rick did not have children but helped raise a special niece Ashley Chapman.

Because they did not have children, Rick & Linda got involved in riding touring motorcycles and took their first long trip in 1980 which began a passion of traveling North America on 2 wheels. This began an annual process of taking a 2 week motorcycle adventure every year. In 1987 they helped start a local chapter of a national owners group which is still together today in a different form, where they have made countless friendships and have traveled over a half a million miles together.

Linda graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School in Evansville, Illinois in 1970 and later that year she left to live with her brother in White Settlement, TX to help watch her young nephew Dale. Rick was currently going to school and on a visit to see Linda they decided that they would like to live in the DFW area of North Texas after they were married. Rick got a job with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and later Linda was employed by a commercial bank working in their check clearing area. Later she transferred to the commercial and personal Trust Operations as a Trust Administrator. She worked at several banks during the next 25 years as banks were bought up by different holding companies and she ended up retiring from Chase Bank in 2005.

They lived in Garland for 5 years and then moved to north Oak Cliff which was close to where they both worked in downtown Dallas. In 1999 they sold their Oak Cliff home of 18 years and built a new home in Wylie, where they currently live.

Linda’s passion was riding with her husband Rick on their touring motorcycle with other friends on countless trips in North America. In the summer of 2015 they took a 50 day ride to Alaska and back which was the most memorable of all of their travels together. Her other passion was her immediate family, more specifically her sister Pat and her niece Ashley Chapman.

Linda was a very shy and quiet person, but she had a mischievous and funny side to her that a few of her friends got to see. And she had a set of eyes and a smile and that would melt your heart. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Chapel in Sachse with Rev. Earnest Walt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Linda's honor to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
