Leeman Warren Cuningham

November 10, 1932 — January 13, 2018

Leeman (Babe) Warren Cunningham, of Murphy, Texas died at Baylor Hospital in Carrollton, Texas surrounded by his family on January 13, 2018. He was 85 years old.


Leeman is survived by his wife, Delma, and three sons Philip of Blueridge Texas, Bruce of Clear Lake Minnesota, and Darren of Princeton, Texas. Leman has five surviving grandchildren including Christopher Willis, Matthew Cunningham, Travis Cunningham, Katherine Cunningham, and John Cunningham. Leeman is also survived by two great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and six-- step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandson Philip Warren Key Cunningham, parents Rev. A. W. Cunningham and Julia Bethel Cunningham. Also, four brothers Wade, Wayland, Eugene, A.W. Jr., and three sisters Rena Ruth Robertson, Rosalee McNeeley, and Mildred Beth Sheppard. Leeman leaves numerous nieces, nephews’ and cousins.


Leeman was born on November 10, 1932 in Dallas Texas to Rev. A. W. and Bethel Cunningham. He was the youngest of eight. He started school in Copeville, Texas and finished at Celeste High School in 1951.That same year Leeman joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Wichita Falls, Wright Patterson air base in Ohio, Hanscom airbase in Massachusetts, a radar site in Alaska near the Bering Straits and lastly Barksdale airbase in Shreveport, Louisiana.Leeman married Delma Raye Simons of Chatham Louisiana in 1955 and relocated to Dallas Texas to begin their lives together. The couple moved to Murphy Texas in 1969 and raised their family there. Leeman worked at Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas for 40 years and retired in 1995. After retirement, Leeman and Delma enjoyed being active, they were members of the First Baptist Church of Wylie, Texas, they were involved in helping raise their grandchildren, and they enjoyed traveling and camping with their family and friends.


Leeman passed away peacefully after a long struggle with his health. The family is very appreciative of the prayers and support offered by so many during the last several years that his struggle went on. He will be remembered as a gentle, kind, and compassionate man who made others laugh, and made many lives better by just being “Babe”.


A public visitation will be Friday January 19, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Wylie. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 and burial at Blue Ridge cemetery in Blue Ridge Texas. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Leeman’s life. Services entrusted to Charles W. Smith & Sons of Sachse, Texas.
