Lawrence Sopczynski

d. April 12, 2020

Lawrence Joseph Sopczynski, 67, was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 2, 1952 and peacefully passed away on April 12, 2020 in McKinney, Texas.

Larry graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1970 and attended University of Chicago-Illinois for architecture. He was in the Navy Reserves where he specialized in avionics. After his service, Larry embarked on a successful career as a store planner and senior manager at J. C. Penney from 1974-2012.

Larry had two great loves in his life. First was his family, but coming in at a close second was his beloved Chicago Cubs. Even after relocating to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 1998, his love for the Cubbies didn't wane. (What was he gonna do, start rooting for the Rangers? Please). Larry celebrated when the Cubbies finally won the World Series in 2016.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Bernice (Zaprzalka) Sopczynski.

Larry is survived by his wife of 41 years Collette; son Michael Sopczynski (Amanda), granddaughter Mathilda, and daughter Sara Sopczynski (Erik Oberg). Larry is also survived by his siblings Kenneth Sopczynski, Sister Mary Sue Sopczynski, Rosie Twardowski (George), and Donna Criscione (Buz), and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Larry's life will be held at a later date, as soon as it is safe for family and friends to gather together to celebrate the life of this loving man.

Memorials in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
