Lawrence C. Hogeboom

Lawrence C. Hogeboom passed away in Murphy, Texas on Sunday, June 17, 2018. Lawrence was born on November 19, 1931 in Panama City, Florida, near the Tarpon Dock area. He attended schools in the Panama City and Bay County areas and entered the U.S. Army in March 1949. He served in the Army until his retirement on April 1, 1979, completing a military career of 30 years and 15 days. He was retired in the McAlester, OK area for 37 years, until his move to Texas in 2009.

Lawrence completed many duty assignments during his career. His assignments included Japan (twice), Korea (twice), Vietnam, and Greenland. Stateside tours of duty included Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Reno, OK, Fort Stewart, GA, Camp Leroy Johnson, New Orleans, LA, and Mississippi. He served as the Oklahoma Area Commander and Assistant Area Commander of the McAlester and SE Oklahoma recruiting areas. His last duty assignment was Command Sgt. Major of the U.S. Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester, OK.

His awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal (twice), Good Conduct Medal (6 times), Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Army Commendation Medal (3 times), Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit.

Lawrence is survived by his three daughters: Ruby Merchant, Okeechobee, FL, Barbara McCart (Wayne), Belton, TX, and Becky Casey, Murphy, TX. His grandchildren: T.J. McCart (Gabby), Gainesville, FL, Jessica McCart, Round Rock, TX, Mallory Gregorio (Dave), San Antonio, TX and Connor McCart, Belton, TX. His great-grandson: Alexander Gregorio, San Antonio, TX. His sister: Francis Block(Dan) Harrah, OK.

He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Susan; his father, E. L. Hogeboom; sisters, Jo Ann Hogeboom and Jean Hogeboom Turner; and brothers, Patrick, Richard, and E.L. Hogeboom, Jr.
