Laura T. González

September 13, 1949 — June 9, 2018

Laura T. González, age 68, passed away on June 9, 2018 at The Highlands of Dallas in Dallas, Texas. Laura was born on September 13, 1949, in Monterrey, México, the daughter of Ovidio C. González and Josefina González.

In her youth, Laura's family moved to Chicago, Illinois when her father was recruited to play in the American Minor Leagues. Laura attended Catholic schools in Chicago, where she excelled academically. She graduated from Immaculata High School on June 2, 1968.

Shortly after high school graduation, Laura moved back to Monterrey, México where she lived and worked for 6 years. This was an incredibly special time in Laura's life for she was able to spend time with aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, as well as travel throughout her birth country. Even in the last few years of her life, she spoke about her adventures during this time and the people she was able to share them with.

In 1975, Laura returned to Chicago, Illinois to pursue her B.A. in Psychology from Northeastern Illinois University. Laura had a true passion for the field of psychology, she never stopped reading or learning about advances in the field.

In 1980, Laura moved to Texas where she made Garland, Texas her home for a few years. During these years, she worked for the Centex Corporation in Dallas as a financial analyst. She was highly successful and was often sought after for her precision and attention to details.

In 1984, after purchasing her first home in Mesquite, Texas and advancing in her career, Laura was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor. She underwent surgery then and proceeded to have two additional brain surgeries which resulted in paralysis and left Laura disabled.

Laura adopted a Keeshond named Bo. He became her tried and true companion. Bo inspired Laura to volunteer for the Tri-State Keeshond Rescue where she hosted other Keeshonds until they found their forever homes. Casey, Charlie, and Picasso were her faithful companions until she entered the nursing home. Her work with the Tri-State Keeshond Rescue was continuously appreciated and recognized by many.

When Laura could no longer take care of herself, she became a resident at The Highlands of Dallas in Dallas, Texas. She made friends with countless people there, including nurses, aides, and fellow residents. We would like to thank those who took care of her there and made the last three years not only manageable, but memorable.

Laura was a selfless woman who poured 110% into all that she did, whether it was crunching numbers, gardening in her yard, couponing to make ends meet, or finding homes for displaced dogs, Laura always worked hard and with fervor. She had a big heart and helped however she could, even when her situation or circumstance was limited. Laura will be remembered for this and will live on through her efforts. We will never forget her smile, her laughter, but moreover how hard she fought to stay among us, here, for so long, despite her health struggles and hurdles. She will forever, for all eternity, live on in our hearts. We love you, sister!
