Larry Alan Hubbard, of Sachse, Texas, passed away on September 12, 2017, after a valiant 7-month battle with grade 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. He was 72 years old. His 30+ years of military service gave him the strength, courage and determination to never give up the fight.

Larry was born on October 8, 1944, in Nevada City, California. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school, where he excelled as a competitive swimmer.

Larry served in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman Master Chief; a decorated Vietnam-era Navy SEAL with distinctions including the Bronze Star with Combat “V”, the Purple Heart and the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”, among numerous other awards and honors; and a Command Master Chief.

Larry retired from the Navy in 1993 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He then worked for the federal government at the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services office in Dallas, Texas, as a data network administrator for 11 years, retiring in 2006.

Larry had a generous heart and spent many years involved with the Shriners Hospital for Children, NFL Charities and other youth-focused nonprofit organizations. He also spent many years coaching his daughters’ youth sports teams and umpiring recreational softball games.

In his last months, Larry (aka Grampy) most enjoyed spending his time playing with his grandson Colby and watching his granddaughter Makayla compete in cheerleading. He spent every day with family and looked forward to his weekly Sundaygatherings at Whataburger for coffee with friends.

He is survived by wife Cindy; daughters Sharisse, Bridget, Jessica and Joy; sons Mike and Chris; brothers Ken and Richard; stepdaughters Angela, Gina and Ashley; his grandchildren; and many other family members and close friends across the country.

He is preceded in death by his father Leonard Hubbard, beloved mother Frances Dingenthal and stepfather Harry Dingenthal.
