Kirby Glen Stiles passed peacefully in the late afternoon on January 5, 2017. He was born in Weston, Texas on November 7, 1932 to Charles and Mattie Stiles. Kirby had a sister, Charlie Johnson, who passed in 2004 after a long battle with lung cancer.
Kirby entered the Army in April of 1954, and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in February of 1956 receiving both a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After his service in the Army, he worked for the Texas Highway Department and later as a bail bondsman in Dallas, Texas where he resided for the remainder of his life.
When Kirby wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his long time friends, Joe, Okie and Tim, and his poker buddies, Ronny and Leslie. He also spent a great deal of time fishing with his nephew, Jimmy Johnson. Most recently, he enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys winning season.
Over the past year, he lived at Prestonwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where he enjoyed the staff and many members of that community. The nurses and staff loved him, cared deeply for him, and took very good care of him. Kirby also enjoyed being in close proximity to his nephew Jimmy and his wife, Jennifer.
Funeral services will be held at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Visitation will be prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. A short graveside ceremony will immediately follow the service at Melissa Cemetery.
