KATHLEEN BARBER SALERNO
August 2, 1953 - February 5, 2014

Kathleen Barber Salerno passed peacefully in the afternoon of February 5, 2014 with her husband, David, brother, Carl and sister, Suzanne at her side.

Kathleen was born in Houston on August 2, 1953, where she grew up and spent most of her adult life. For several years during her 20's she moved to Colorado where she met her husband, David, to whom she had been married for 36 years. Though Kathleen and David never had children of their own, her dogs were always considered and treated as if they were her children. Kathleen was also affectionately known as a "Professional Aunt" to her 7 nephews and greatly appreciated by her siblings (1 sister and 3 brothers and their spouses) for her baby-sitting services. Kathleen's extraordinary artistic abilities which she inherited from her mother, was always a good entertainment and teaching tool she used with the nephews.

Kathleen loved fishing with a passion and was often known to haul in the biggest catch-of-the-day. Making several wonder with amazement that her petite frame could have reeled it in, let alone pull it in the boat or on land! When she and David acquired their Lake House off the Trinity River between Huntsville and Trinity in 1999, she felt that she had found a little piece of heaven here on earth. They spent as much time as possible at their Lake House and Kathleen dreamed of being able to retire there or at the very least satellite work from there with the gorgeous view down the sloping lawn to watch the catfish jumping in the lake.

Kathleen's feisty spirit and strong motivation helped her to excel at a profession she loved and was dedicated to.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, David Salerno; her faithful dog, Sweet Pea; brother Carl Barber, Sr. and wife, Robin; sister Suzanne Barber Anderson and husband, Mike; brother Lee Barber, Jr.; and numerous nephews; niece-in-laws; and great nephews and nieces.

Services for Kathleen will be a private family only at her Lake House. In lieu of flowers, Kathleen would appreciate a donation to either the SPCA or the American Lung Association.
