Age 84, passed from this life May 13, 2011 with his family at his side. Joe was born January 27, 1927 in Shady Grove, Texas to James Benjamin and Beulah Mae (Temple) Quattlebaum.
He was a Garland, Texas resident since April 1956. He was an original and lifetime fan of the South Garland High School Colonels. Joe served in the US Army and was in transit for a land invasion of Japan when the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan. Orders were changed and he was sent to the Korean Occupation as a member of the Quartermaster Corps.
Joe was a driver for Red Ball Motor Freight and Consolidated Freightway during his working life. He is a member of Teamsters Local 745. After retirement he drove a school bus for the Garland ISD.
Joe was an active member of Southminister Presbyterian Church and had been instrumental in working in the growth of the church. His most enjoyable time was adoring his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Tennie (McLeroy) Quattlebaum, daughter Patricia Wetzel and her husband Joe, grandchildren; Jennifer Parrish and her husband Michael, Joseph Wetzel and his wife Diana, great grandchildren; Hannah Wetzel and Benjamin Wetzel. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
VISITATION will be 6 " 8 P.M. Monday May 16, 2011 at the funeral home. FUNERAL SERVICE will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday May 17, 2011 at Charles W Smith & Sons Sachse Chapel, 2925 Fifth St., Sachse, Texas 75048, 972-414-5050. Interment will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park, Greenville, Texas.
