Johnny Charles Champion of Rowlett, Texas, was born on May 6, 1936. At the age of 88, he went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Richardson, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Milton Champion and Mary Frances Elizabeth Champion, his brothers, Jim Champion and Harry Champion, and his sister, Joyce McKanna.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sandra Champion; his sons, Michael (Michelle) Champion and Steven (Hayden Alvey) Champion; his sweet granddaughter, Madelyn “Maddie” Champion; his brother, Rev. Eddie Champion of Bartlett, Tennessee; and his sister, Carol Sue (John) Westin of Farmersville, Texas, and his many nephews and nieces.
He proudly served his country in both the Marines and the Navy. Johnny was a certified reserve police officer with the Dallas Sheriff Department. He dedicated 30 years of his career to the U.S. Postal Service.
Johnny loved God, family, and his country. A devout Christian, he was a member of Parkside Baptist Church in Mesquite since January 2009.
Johnny enjoyed reading, history, woodworking, his beloved dogs, and most of all, the precious memory of telling crazy stories, building villages, and playing games with his beloved granddaughter, Maddie. The battle is over, and he fought the good fight to the end. Semper Fi, Marine.
