Johnnie Faye Pierce, or "Memaw", as she was affectionately known, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 18, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born in Sherman, TX on Dec. 29, 1927 to Joseph and Hester Hall. She grew up in Sherman where she attended High School and Austin College. Believe it or not, at 5'2", she even played basketball for Austin College.
She met and married her late husband Paul Pierce, and they had one son, Joe Paul Pierce.
Memaw was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith. She was a lifelong member of the North Pointe Church of Christ in Sachse.
Her devotion to her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Johnnie worked for Sherwin Williams for over 40 years, where she was a dedicated member of the accounting department. Alongside her husband, she was a kind and honest landlord as well, offering support and compassion to countless tenants over the years.
Johnnie had a deep love for music and enjoyed listening to many different genres, often spending time watching music videos. She was talented at playing the organ and keyboard in her spare time. One of her greatest joys was playing the organ and singing when her grandkids or great-grandchildren visited, filling the house with music and love.
She was also known for her thoughtful gestures. Johnnie frequently mailed her grandsons and their wives greeting cards with handwritten notes detailing her day-to-day activities. In each card, she would always include a newspaper cutout—either a cartoon joke or an uplifting note—bringing a smile to their faces and reminding them of her love and sense of humor.
She never forgot anyone’s birthday or anniversary, always sending a card to celebrate. Every Valentine’s Day, Johnnie made sure every family member received a card with a $5 bill, a simple yet heartfelt gesture that became a cherished tradition.
Johnnie gave the best hugs. Even though she was a petite woman, her hugs were always full of warmth and strength. She would wrap you up and pat your back, letting you know you were loved and always had a place to go.
However, Johnnie’s most cherished role was that of a loving mother and wife. She took immense pride in taking care of her family, especially in her cooking. She was known for her extraordinary pies and fudge, which she generously shared with family and friends on holidays, birthdays, or simply as a gesture of kindness.
Her selflessness and ability to bring joy to others will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.
Johnnie Pierce is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son Joe Paul, his wife Alma, and two grandsons—Chad, wife Tracy; Dustin, wife Sara—and six great-grandsons: Braden, Tanner, Carsen, Westen, Garrett, and Jackson.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the nurses, caregivers, and hospice staff for their compassionate care and kindness during Johnnie's final days. Your dedication and love made a difference, and we are forever thankful for the support you provided.
