John Robert Tompkins

John Robert "Johnny" Tompkins, 64, passed away on December 23, 2018, at his residence in Sachse, Texas. Johnny was diagnosed with cancer in January 2017 and fought valiantly before succumbing to the disease. Johnny was born in Dallas, Texas on October 7th, 1954. He was the 3rd and youngest son of Jarvis and Neva Tompkins. Johnny was a 1973 graduate of Hillcrest High school and he earned his Associates Degree from Eastfield College. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and son. Johnny was known for his sense of humor and story telling. He loved to take long walks with his dogs at the trails of Woodbridge Golf Course. Johnny enjoyed all water sports. Some of his favorite memories were of scuba diving off the Florida Keys and diving with the sharks in the Bahamas. Those closest to him new him to be a man of his word with true integrity. Johnny is survived by his wife Mary Grace "Meg" Tompkins and son John Wyatt Tompkins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jarvis and Neva Tompkins; brothers Jack Tompkins and Dick Tompkins; nephew Robert Tompkins; and in-laws Hutch and Lura Jane Sisserson, Brian Sisserson and John Self.

Funeral services will be held on December 31st at 2:00pm at the Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 2925 5th, Sachse, TX, 75048. Reception immediately following at the home of Paul and Jan Stark of Wylie, Texas. Please check with funeral home for reception information.
