John Lawrence (Jack) Thompson was born in Buffalo, NY on January 16, 1931, to Thomas C. and Anna Bauer Thompson. Jack passed away at home in Garland, Texas, on July 28, 2013 as a result of complications with Alzheimer's and Congestive Heart Failure surrounded by his family and close friends. Jack gave his heart to Jesus on September 15, 1968, and remained a faithful servant at Orchard Hills Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. It is our belief that our world is a much better place because of his 82 years with us.
Upon graduation from Kensington High School in Buffalo, New York, Jack attended North Carolina State on a double scholarship - football and baseball. After graduation in 1954, he joined the U.S. Army Ranger Corps. for two years. Jack then attended Michigan State University and studied Packaging Engineering. He worked for JM Huber Corporation, in Hillside, New Jersey, until the late 60's, and then spent the remainder of his work years in the insurance business.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Thomas C. Thompson, Jr. of Sudbury, Massachusetts.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Hilda; his son, Robert T. Thompson and his wife, Sandy, of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Lauren Thompson of Austin, Texas; grandson, Hunter Thompson and his fianc, Melissa Thomas, of Austin, Texas; sister, Florence Ann Simons, of East Aurora, New York; sisters-in-law, Brett Thompson, of Sudbury, Massachusetts and Millie Esser-Colton, of Brownsville, Texas; and brother-in-law, John Tatum, of Converse, Louisiana.
