John Robert Russell

John Robert Russell, 67, of Tomball, Texas passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Kindred Hospital in Houston, Texas.

John was born to Doreen and Willy Russell on June 20, 1950 in Minot, North Dakota, and grew up in Sachse, Texas, where his family eventually settled when his father retired from the US Air Force. Most recently, before relocating to Tomball to be near his sons, John resided in Garland, Texas for many years. He is preceded in death by his mother, Doreen and father, Willy, and is survived by his two sons, Christopher Jerome Russell, 46, and Steven Robert Russell, 42, both of Tomball, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ritter and niece, Brandy Ritter.

John retired from Kraft Foods in Garland after almost 40 years of service. He was an avid sports fan who spent many of his earlier years coaching and mentoring youth teams in football and baseball, and refereeing basketball, and was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR racing.

The family will receive friends for a memorial service on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas, located at 2925 Fifth Street.
