John Roger Oliphant died on September 13, 2019 after a brief illness. He was 88 years old. Mr. Oliphant was born in Holdenville, OK on February 28, 1931 to James Ralph and Ruth Arnold Oliphant. During his high school days, he played football and basketball and was party of a doubles team that won a state championship in tennis. He received a football scholarship to Oklahoma State University, but later transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Order of Kappa Alpha. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from East Central Oklahoma University.
For more than 40 years, he taught middle and high school history and coached in the Dallas Independent School District. He had been active in the Dallas Coaches Association and the Masonic Lodge of Texas.
He is survived by his widow, Frances, and his two daughters and their families, Janet and Ralph Stafford and children Brooke and Jacob of Plano and Blythe and Jarrod Campbell and their children Kaelyn and McKenna of Cedar Park, TX and a number of nieces and nephews. Other survivors include grandsons Nathan Miller and his wife Lindsay of Rowlett and their five children and Jason Miller and his three children of Rowlett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer's Association.
