John W Holloway

January 15, 1931 — January 27, 2025

Wylie

John Holloway passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Monday January 27, 2025 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Ida Holloway, and eleven siblings. He left behind five children: Randy (Tina), Ronda Fults (John), Larry (Theresa), Kevin (Karen) and John (Kimberly). He had 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

John had countless friends, and had a special love for children, particularly those in less fortunate circumstances. He was a champion of the underdog.

He grew up in Idabel, Oklahoma and moved to Illinois after graduating high school. He could have gone to college to play basketball, but coming from a family of meager means, he chose to go to work. His unmatched work ethic led him to become General Superintendent of a large construction company in the Chicago Suburbs.

He built his first house in Elgin, Illinois where he, along with Ida, raised five children. He later moved the family to Murphy, Texas, having joined his younger brother to help grow Holloway Welding and Piping. He was a tremendous provider and a very loving father. Everyone he met enjoyed his kindness and sense of humor. He also had a love of music and was a self-taught guitar, banjo, harmonica, and piano player. Thankfully, he passed that gift on to his family.

He will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Lavon, Texas on February 7, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
