Joe Sam Akin

Joe Sam Akin of Nevada was born February 26, 1928 and passed away August 26, 2016 in the arms of his loving wife and children. He fought a battle with lung disease and failed kidneys. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, and Papa. He loved his time with the family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren… Always excited to teach them new things.

Joe was born in Honey Grove to Charlie and Lillie Akin. Joe worked as a Painter until he retired. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and a good cup of coffee. He also enjoyed working outside and gardening. Joe was always willing to help others . He was a member of Lavon Assembly of God church and loved the Lord.

Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise; daughter Jo Nell Medcalf ; daughter Alice Saulters and husband Johnny; son, Eddie Akin; sister Mary Lois Payne; 5 grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Jeremy, Julie and Jessica; 6 great grandchildren Peyton, Mikayla, Abagale, Grey, Trynn and Joseph (his namesake)and a large extended family that loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lillie Akin; brothers Herman , Bill, Thomas, Kermit and Jerry; sisters Opal, Gertrude and Lucy; Son-in-law, Ronnie Medcalf.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 30th from 6-8PM at Charles Smith Funeral Home in Sachse. Funeral service, Wednesday, August 31st 2PM at Lavon Assembly of God in Lavon, Texas.
