Jim Dingman
Remembered as a dear friend to many, the consummate professional with a great sense of humor and a passion for Environmental Health, James (Jim) Daniel Dingman sadly passed away on January 12, 2022, in Allen, Texas.
Jim was born on February 1, 1954 in Longmont, Colorado, to Helen and Leo Dingman. His passion for nature emerged very early on, with Jim successfully earning his Eagle Scout Award twice! (The records office burnt down, and Jim's fierce determination had him making sure his Eagle Scout Rank was indeed recorded). His early dreams of being a Park Ranger led Jim to Colorado State University where he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science, in Wildlife Biology, and then again, graduating from the University of Denver in 1980, with a Master of Science in Biological Sciences.
With an exceptional career in Environmental Health that spanned more than four decades, Jim was awarded the A. Harry Bliss Editor's Award, for contributions that advance the cause and interests of the association and the environmental health profession through the Journal. The Certification of Diplomate Laureate by the American Academy of Sanitarians, which recognizes Diplomates who have demonstrated exceptional professional growth, accomplishment and leadership in the sanitarian profession. The Milton Miller Award for outstanding Environmental Health Professional; and the P. W. Jacoe Memorial Award, for Technical Innovation in Public Health. Jim served on the Board of Directors, was a past President and is an honorary life member of NEHA.
Jim married Cheryl Elizabeth Bloomfield (Maronde) in Longmont, Colorado, on January 8, 1980. They spent 41 wonderful years together, experiencing all that life had to offer.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving and dedicated wife Cheryl, his mother Helen, his father Leo, his stepdaughter Leslie, and stepson Brian.
Jim is survived by his brother Kent (Christie); his son Andrew (Gina), stepdaughter Tina, and stepson Cory; grandchildren Travis, Teagan, Katie, and Chantayla; his nephew Aaron (Jenn) and Ben; nieces Pamela and Rebecca and grand-niece Clara.
"To the old rugged cross I will ever be true. It's shame and reproach gladly bear. Then he'll call me some day to my home far away. Where his glory forever I'll share" ~ The Old Rugged Cross (George Bennard)
