Jewel Nicole Roorda Raines was born on August 11, 1982 in Garland, Texas. She passed away on October 8 of this year at the age of 39.
Jewel was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, coworker, and friend. She was very selfless and her faith in Jesus was above reproach. Jewel was a gem, a true reflection of her name. She had a huge heart for her family and friends and served others anyway she could. She was very talented and loved to paint. She was also an avid reader. Jewel had a very strong work ethic in high school and college and then later in her career. She graduated from Garland Christian Academy in 2001 and received a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from Texas A&M in 2015. Most recently she used her pharmacy tech license in her work with Allied Referred Care beginning in 2007 and, for the past 10 years, with Amerisourcebergen.
Jewel married Brody Raines, on July 29, 2006. They just celebrated their 15th anniversary this past summer. Their first daughter, Stormye Rhyann, was born February 22, 2016 and then Gracyn Nicole was born May 29, 2019.
Jewel grew up at First Baptist Garland where she became a Christian and was baptized as a young child. When she was a teenager, she began serving in the special needs ministry and then later in the preschool ministry for several years. Long before she became a mom, she was devoted to kids and family. She and her family continued to be active members of First Baptist Garland.
Jewel was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruby Ruth and Pete Lamb; and Phyllis and Sam Roorda.
Jewel is survived by her husband, Brody; her daughters, Stormye Rhyann and Gracyn Nicole; her mother, Cheryl Ann Swanson; her father, Randy Roorda; her brother, James Coston; and her nephew, Austin Coston.
A memorial service to celebrate Jewel's life will be held on Thursday, November 11, at 2:00 pm in the Worship Center of First Baptist Garland. A gathering for friends and family will be held immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall.
