Jerry Ray Welch

Jerry Ray Welch, 65, of McKinney, Texas died on September 23, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born June 10, 1947 in Melissa, Texas to Cecil Ruben and Ruby Lee (Evans) Welch. He proudly served his country in the First Calvary Division of the United States Army during the Vietnam War in which he earned several medals of Honor which included a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war, Jerry continued his service for several years as a police officer offering his assistance in Collin, Dallas and Ellis counties. He then started his career with Vought Aircraft where he remained until retirement. Jerry really loved the game of baseball which he watched on TV. He also played on several softball leagues in his younger days. He also enjoyed riding and taking care of his horses. Jerry was a member of Southwest Baptist Church in Desoto, Texas.

He is survived by his children, Tammy Kay Welch of Flower Mound, Texas, Jeremy William Welch of Groesbeck, Texas, Shannon Renee Welch also of Groesbeck, Texas; former wife, Carolyn Redmon of Lewisville, Texas; former wife, Donna Lenamond of Groesbeck, Texas; and eight (8) beautiful grandchildren; siblings, Gene Welch and wife Regina of Trenton, Texas, Rita Harris and husband Ronald of Bailey, Texas, Ricky Welch and Ronnie Welch of Pottsboro, Texas and many other loving family members and friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Ruby Welch.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday evening, September 26, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in McKinney, 601 S Tennessee St. McKinney 75069. Burial will take place Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. at the DFW National Cemetery.
