Jerry Stephen "Steve" Rhodes returned to his heavenly home on September 22, 2015. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family. Steve's devotion to his family and his firm believe in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ comforted him in his final days on earth, and ultimately gave him peace.
Steve was born in Brawley, California to Charlie Steven Rhodes and Minnie Fitzgerald Rhodes on March 31, 1934. He served in both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant in the USAF. He fought in both the Korean and Viet Nam wars, receiving the Bronze Star for his service during the latter. Steve studied Chinese at Yale University, ultimately became a Chinese linguist for the USAF. He was a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas.
Steve married Mireya Serna on July 12, 1959 in Monterrey, Mexico. He is survived by his wife Mireya Rhodes, son Steven Rhodes II, son Arthur Glenn and daughter-in-law Sarah Kay Rhodes, daughter Vanesa Rhodes, brother Charles Rhodes, sister Ardina White, grand-daughter Amber Gayle and her husband Jared Roberts, grand-son Andrew Garrett Rhodes, and many nieces and nephews.
Steve will be buried at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas. Funeral services will take place at the cemetery chapel on Friday, September 25th at 12 noon. Floral arrangements may be sent to Charles Smith and Sons in McKinney. Reverend Tom Houston from the Wylie Bible Church will officiate.
