Sachse

Jeanne Phillips passed away on August 18, 2024 in Richardson, Texas.

She was born Jeanne Marie Landry on September 8, 1939 in Assumption Parish, in the heart of bayou country in South Louisiana. She was one of five children of Everette Landry, Sr. and Louisianne Landry. She attended Assumption High School where she was an honors graduate in 1956. She enrolled at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where she met Thomas Phillips, a US Army veteran who was attending Nicholls after his discharge from military service. Jeanne married Thomas in Labadieville, Louisiana on August 24, 1959. She and Thomas, who received a degree from Nicholls, moved to Dallas, Texas in 1960 when Thomas took a job with Republic National Bank of Dallas. They purchased their first home in Garland, Texas in 1962. They raised two sons in Garland, James Phillips, born November 27, 1964, and Jason Phillips, born January 24, 1972.

Jeanne worked in the Dallas area in a number of corporate administrative and human resources positions, but her true passion was as a teacher and caretaker of pre-school children. She worked at several pre-schools in Dallas and Garland over the years and loved working with the kids. She joined the Laureate Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, where she and her beloved sisters worked together philanthropically for 55 years until her death. Ever a believer in education, she reenrolled in college at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in December 1995, after which she promptly retired to spend her days with Thomas. They moved to Sachse, Texas in 2004. The two of them spent their retirement years enjoying the company of each other and traveling with friends and family. After Thomas passed in 2022, Jeanne found solace enjoying time with friends at the Sachse Senior Activity Center, where she cultivated another hidden talent, painting.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Thomas. She is survived by her sons James and Jason, her daughter-in-law Christy Phillips, and grandchildren Kayleigh Allen Kettle, Landry Phillips, Abby Phillips, and Jace Phillips. She is also survived by her siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends and other family in North Texas, South Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
