Janice Gottardi

January 6, 1946 — August 18, 2022

Janice (Jan) L. Gottardi a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend left this world on August 18, 2022 at age 76.

She was born to Stewart and Gertrude Sumner on January 6, 1946 in North Adams, Massachusetts and is survived by her three children, Carl Gottardi, James Gottardi, and Monica Gottardi-Eaker; as well as many grandchildren.

Jan grew up in New England, on a farm, with her parents and siblings and spent her days riding horses, collecting eggs from the henhouse, and chopping firewood. It was here she met the love of her life, Brian, and started her family. Jan's love of children allowed her to open her home to foster children in need in her community for many years. She always welcomed the neighborhood kids into her home and loved each of them as if they were her own.

Jan had a passion for life and tried to experience everything she could. From waterskiing to motorcycling, she was not one to sit on the sidelines. She wanted to be a part of everything going on around her. In her spare-time she liked to learn and try new things. She loved music and dancing; even learning to play the mandolin. She never shied away from hard work, which allowed her to build a barn, porch, and fence at her small home in New Hampshire. One of her favorite hobbies was crochet. Jan has crocheted thousands of blankets, clothes, hats, and scarves. She would crochet anything and everything you could think of or ask for. She never kept anything she crocheted, always gifting her creations to friends and family members.

Jan loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, and playing the slots at the casino. She worked hard for her family to make sure they had everything they needed, many times going without herself. She fully enjoyed her life and family and made time to show up for everyone who reached out.

She is known for her dry, "Yankee" humor and speaking her mind. She always said what she meant and meant what she said. To those lucky enough to be considered friends enjoyed her quick wit, down to earth views, and acceptance of everyone's imperfections. She believed everyone was equal and disapproved of anyone who believed otherwise.

Anyone who knew Jan knew that she was the most loving wife, mother, sibling, grandmother, and daughter a family could ask for.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon, August 24th at Charles W Smith Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas.
