JAMES MAXWELL TUCKER, SR.
November 3, 1931 – June 9, 2023
James Maxwell (Max) Tucker, 91, is now rejoicing with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, having passed from the world on Friday, June 9, 2023. Max was born in his family farm home near Hampton, Arkansas to Robert (Bob) and Kitty Hannigan Tucker. He was the youngest of nine children.
In his youth he was known as “Max” by his family. Professionally he used the nickname “Jim.” After graduation from Hampton High School in 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Dorothy Hawkins in 1954. He graduated from LeTourneau College of Longview, Texas with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by Friedrich Refrigeration Company in San Antonio, eventually serving as Engineering Manager of the commercial refrigeration division. He later held refrigeration engineering positions near Atlanta, Georgia and at Frigidaire Commercial Products in Conway, Arkansas. In 2003 Max and Dorothy moved to Garland, Texas to be near their son’s family.
Max was a loyal church supporter holding many positions in the various churches he attended. He enjoyed singing, participating in choir, leading songs in worship, and teaching Sunday School. He enjoyed golf, especially in retirement. An excellent carpenter with a large collection of tools, he frequently built gazebos, patio decks, made landscape improvements such as sheds with flower boxes, rabbit deterring fences around gardens and other projects that caught Dorothy’s fancy.
After Dorothy’s death in 2014, he became reacquainted with a high school sweetheart, Charlotte Avant Brasher. They would marry in October 2015, and then enjoyed many cruises and travel together.
After Charlotte’s death in 2018 he moved to Twin Rivers Senior Living in Richardson and developed new friendships. At Twin Rivers he continued to be involved in social activities and planned and participated in several musical programs for the residents.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Kitty, his first wife, Dorothy, his second wife, Charlotte, sisters, Madrid Newton (Obb), Melba McGaugh (Floyd), brothers, Madison Tucker (Gladys), Harold Tucker (Lila), Robert Tucker (Myrtis), Wallace Tucker (Jetty), Ralph Tucker, and Dan Tucker (Louise).
