James Robert Salter, born 1/7/27 in Austin, TX, the only child of James Simpson and Agnes Akers Salter. Died 8/31/12 in Dallas.
Jim grew up in San Antonio and enlisted in the US Navy upon high school graduation. After serving during World War II, he continued his education, receiving degrees from Baylor U. and University of Texas. He was an Industrial Psychologist, working for Sears Roebuck Corporate offices for 30 years, and later as a private consultant in the Dallas area.
His many interests included photography, playing trumpet, repairing all sorts of things, amateur radio, philosophy, classical music, and the English language. He was a talented writer and was known for his extensive vocabulary. He enjoyed book discussion groups, concerts, and museums.
A particular focus was on sound, acoustics and hearing. After developing tinnitus during a plane depressurization in the 1970’s he became an advocate for the American Tinnitus Association and counseled people from around the country. He also helped provide devices to assist the hearing impaired.
In 1954 he married Virginia Hessler in Oak Park, IL. They settled in Dallas where they raised their family and remained there in retirement.
Survivors include his wife, son James and wife Terry, daughter Cindy and husband Mark Stribling, three grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Service 9/8/12 "
