James Roderick Medcalf of Wylie, Tx was born on May 20, 1931 in Melissa, Tx to Jimmie Joy and Roderick Medcalf. He passed peacefully on December 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

James was a beloved husband, father, PaPa, and a cherished friend to many. He found joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always eager to share his wisdom and teach them something new. He created unforgettable memories camping with his grandchildren during their younger years and proudly attended their activities, celebrating every milestone.

Known for his kind heart and sweet tooth, James never missed an opportunity to indulge in desserts—a treat that mirrored his love for life’s simple pleasures. His warm smile and friendly nature will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

James began his working life in the family bakery, a passion that he carried on throughout his life. Shortly after his marriage, he served in the Army, spending time overseas in Germany. Upon returning home, James embarked on a variety of careers that reflected his dedication and strong work ethic.

He began by driving a milk truck, before joining Southland Corporation, where he worked for 30 years. After retiring from Southland, James joined Thermo Sensors, a business owned by his brother John. There, he had the unique opportunity of working alongside his nephew Mark, son Ronnie, and grandson Brandon. James continued working there until the end of 2023, showcasing his commitment and love for his craft.

His journey through life was marked by hard work, devotion, and the enduring connections he made along the way.

James is preceded in death by his parents, son Ronnie, and his brother John. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy; daughter Connie Cother and husband John; son Jimmy Medcalf; sister Joyce Morris and husband Randy; 5 Grandchildren, Brandon and wife Robyn, Julie, Alicia, Michael and wife Casey, and David; and 7 Great Grandchildren Vera, Johnoven, Grey, Roderick, Simon, Rhyland and Jamison; daughter-in-law, Jo Nell Medcalf, and a large extended family that loved him dearly.
