James Roderick Medcalf of Wylie was born on May 20, 1931 to Jimmie Joy and Roderick Medcalf, and passed away on December 18, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, and PaPa. He loved the time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren…always excited to teach them new things. He was born in Melissa, Texas. James worked in the family bakery when he was a very young man and kept the desire for baking throughout his life. He loved desserts and always saved room for desserts when dining.
James loved living on the lake and boating. He enjoyed camping with the grandchildren when they were younger, and attending all of their activities.
James served in the Army just after his marriage and was stationed overseas in Germany. After he was discharged from the service, he drove a milk truck making home deliveries. He worked for Southland Corporation for 30 years. After retiring, he went to work at Thermo Sensors, for his brother John and then nephew Mark. There he worked along side his son and then grandson. He worked there until the end of year 2023. For many years he enjoyed coffee and visiting with friends before work.
James is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy; daughter Connie Cother and husband John; son Jimmy Medcalf; sister Joyce Morris and husband Randy; 5 Grandchildren, Brandon (Robyn), Julie, Alicia, Michael (Casey) and David; and 7 Great Grandchildren Vera, Johnoven, Grey, Roderick, Simon, Rhyland and Jamison; daughter-in-law, Jo Nell Medcalf, and a large extended family that loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Ronnie and brother John.
