Obituary for James Lyle McKee (“Jim to his friends” & “Jimmy to his relatives”)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jim McKee, age 79, on February 7, 2025. A devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Jim's life was defined by courage, love, and a deep passion for family and the outdoors.
Born on May 16, 1945, in Vernon, Texas, Jim McKee was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served with honor and dedication. His military service shaped the strong, resilient man he became, and he carried those values with him throughout his life. His patriotism and commitment to his country were unwavering.
Outside of his military service, Jim had a lifelong love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, finding peace and satisfaction in the woods and fields, whether on a solitary hunt or with close friends or family. Jim also had a special talent for driving heavy machinery, and it brought him great joy to operate on his ranch in his spare time. Whether navigating rugged terrains while four-wheeling or taking on challenging projects with heavy machinery, he loved working with his hands and tackling new challenges.
Jim was also a dedicated mentor to many, instilling strong work values and life skills in those around him. He took great pride in passing on his knowledge and work ethic to others, ensuring that future generations could embrace the same values of perseverance and dedication he held so dear.
But above all, Jim cherished his family. He had an unshakable bond with his immediate family and held a special place in his heart for those who lived far away. Whether near or far, he made sure to stay connected, always ready to lend a listening ear, offer advice, or simply enjoy time together. His love for family, both near and distant, was boundless, and he will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his sisters, Debby (McKee) Harrell and Mary (McKee) Zickefoose; his son, Ty McKee; his daughter, Memorie (McKee) Ross; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, his stepchildren Harold Record, Lisa (Record) Carson, Ricky Record and five grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on February 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 2925 Fifth Street, Sachse, Texas, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory and reflect on the joy he brought to their lives.
Rest in peace, Jim McKee. You were one of a kind, and you will forever be in our hearts.
