James Mortimer Lair

James “Speedy” Mortimer Lair, age 75 of Rockwall, TX, passed away September 2, 2016 in Dallas, TX. He was born on May 16, 1941 in Honey Grove, TX to Archie Mortimer and Myrtle Mae (Wilburn) Lair. Speedy married Patsy Boyd on November 5, 1975 in Dallas, TX. He lived in Garland for 34 years before moving to Rockwall in 2010. He was a member of Lake Pointe Church at Firewheel, Garland Campus. Speedy worked as a truck driver for Safeway Food, Texas Instruments and CIMA Transportation, and he served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of Garland Masonic Lodge #441, and an avid enthusiast and owner of classic and antique cars.


Speedy is survived by his wife, Patsy Lair; sons, Colby Jay Lair and wife, Jennie and Robert Mark Lair and wife, Jami; daughter, Molly Lair Czepiel and husband, Keith; six grandchildren, Charles, Blake, Colton, Tory, Morgan and Andrew; and sister, Martha Jane Conyers and husband, Robert. He was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Patsy Ruth Rogers and Peggy Jo Peebles.


Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at Lake Pointe Church at Firewheel, 1201 E. Campbell Rd., Garland, TX 75044 with Rev. Paul Dorsey officiating. Pallbearers will be Rickey Carter, Darrell Gentry, Mike Heard, Johnny Gentry, Glenn Smith and Felipe Cabrera. Interment will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at Potosi Cemetery, Potosi, TX.
