James Richard "Jim" King, Sr., 84, of Cleburne, TX and Moran, WY, passed from this life on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Morrill, Nebraska on February 12, 1938 to the union of James Francis "Pat" King and Doris May King, and passed away after a lengthy battle with kidney disease.
Jim graduated from Morrill High School in 1955 After marrying his high school sweetheart, Nancy Langley King in 1956, he graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor's degree and then a Master's Degree in 1963. He then began his career as a Geologist which spanned for 44 years with Multiple Companies. After retiring, he continued to use his knowledge and experience as a Consultant. Jim and Nancy raised their five children, Debbie, Coco, Ricky, Kathy and Julie in multiple locations, including Laramie, WY, Denver, CO, Casper, WY, Shreveport, LA, Lafayette, LA, Slidell, LA, Pensacola, FL Baytown, TX , Tyler, TX, and Garland, TX before settling in Cleburne, TX. During the latter years, Jim, along with his loving wife, Nancy enjoyed their summers in their beloved Pacific Creek neighborhood in the beautiful Grand Teton National Park in Moran, Wyoming.
Jim was an avid golfer, traveling all over the United States, with his family, to play on some of the most renowned golf courses. He was also an enthusiastic fisherman and enjoyed taking his family and friends trout fishing on Jackson Lake. His children, grandchildren and cabin guests all have fond memories of carving the day's catch and displaying the fish on the wooden boards for photos to document their successful outings. He was always active and enjoyed daily walks and hunting for fossils and enjoyed educating everyone about the rocks around them. He was also handy with a hammer and helped family and friends on many weekend home improvement projects and his friends soon became extended family.
Jim was a real ladies' man. Need a 4th for Bridge? Or a fill in for Bunco to make it even? Jim was your man. He loved playing games with family and friends.
During the fall, winter and spring seasons, Jim and Nancy spent their days supporting their grandchildren at sporting events, recitals, plays, musicals and other activities during their Elementary, Junior High, High School and College years. Jim also loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit numerous states, Mexico and Canada..
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Doris King, his brother, Doug King and his daughter, Coco King. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 67 years, Nancy Langley King; three daughters Debbie Mixon (James) of Columbia, LA, Kathy Box (Alan) of The Villages, FL, and Julie Parrott (Bill) of Abilene, TX; his son, Dr. James Richard "Ricky" King (Carie) of Cleburne, TX; his brother, Howard King (Shirley) of Morrill, NE; his sister-in-law, Carol Gragson (Ron) of Pamona Beach, CA; brother-in-law, Wesley Langley (Donna) of Clovis, CA.. Jim was a kind and gentle man, as well as a loving husband, father and "Pa" or "Papa Jim" to his many grandchildren, including Nicki, Chris, Cherie, Amanda, Robbie, Chaise, Cody, Jenny, Nick, Jimmy, Patrick, Daniel and Emily, and 17 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Jim is also survived by his precious dachshund, Sissy.
As is customary in the King Family, Jim will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered throughout the wildflowers at his family cabin in Moran, WY. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in July for close family and friends.
