James served in The United States Navy and enjoyed bass fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Charles Johnson and Harold Johnson.
James is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Mary L. Johnson; three daughters, Jannes North and her husband, Mark, Sherry Patterson and her husband, Steven and Melissa Jones; eight grandchildren, James Venz, Mary Sidelove and her husband, Joel, Taylor North, Ethan Riffle, Amy Riffle, Donovon North, Joseph Naghwai, and Jacob Jones; three sisters, Maejohn Landers and her husband, Tommy, Nadra Tribbey and her husband, Bill, and Karon Hocutt and her husband, Larry; brother in-law, Allen Hood and his wife, Claudia; and numerous other family members.
