James Wilson Harris Sr.

November 30, 1938 — March 7, 2025

Sachse

In 1938 a house cost $5,500, a car $364, a movie ticket $.25, a gallon of milk $.60, a gallon of gas $.22, a dozen eggs $.61 and a US postage stamp $.02.  Into this world so different from today a baby named James Wilson Harris, Sr., was born.  He was born in Detroit, Michigan; and therefore, was a YANKEE.  His first job after high school was welding.  He then joined the United States Air Force, and a young man, who hated cold weather, began his military career in Reykjavik, Iceland.  His next assignment landed him in hot and sunny Harlingen, Texas.  After leaving the armed services, Jim moved to Dallas and became a Dallas County Sheriff.  Eventually, he became a Dallas Police officer, serving 23 years and retiring in 1990.

While in the DPD, as he often said, "The best thing that ever happened to me!" happened.  He met the love of his life, Cindy Bedwell in 1974.  They married two years later, celebrating 48 years of marriage in 2024.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Frank O. Harris and Helen Asman, daughter Debra Kay Woerndell and grandson Jayce Bingham.  He is survived by his wife, Cindy, and children; James Wilson Harris, Jr., Opal Jane Potts, Melissa Harris and wife Heather; son-in-law Fred Woerndell, brother-in-law Chris Bedwell and wife Tiffany, and his "favorite" sister-in-law, Linda Bedwell.

Grandchildren (in chronological order); Shirley Minnich and husband Clayton, Robert Bingham, Matthew Roberts, James Wilson Harris III and wife Anita, Kimberly Watson and husband Brian, Leslie Lewis, and Destiny Macias.

Great Grandchildren (in alphabetical order); Abby, Blake, Brandon, Cadence, Cara, Cassidy, Clarissa, Coleman, Dalton, DJ, Dominic, Elly, Emily, Freyah, Isaiah, Jackson, Jakeema Jr., Jiana, Jocelyn, McKenzie, Myriah, Phoebe, Samuel and Zachariah.

Great Great Grandchildren:  Isabella, Willow and soon to be Koe.

Jim loved his family (both regular and church), Cornerstone Church, his friends, and all the women and men who cared for him over the last four years who are to numerous to mention.  THANK YOU!

Most of all, Jim loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  If he were here today, he would tell you that the MOST important thing he ever did was:

+ Realized he was a sinner with no clear understanding of what death meant and with no possible way of going to Heaven

+ Learned he had a Savior whose death on the Cross paid for all Jim's sins (past, present and future)

+ Loved Jim more than anyone (even Cindy)

+ And promised to take Jim to heaven when this life was over (and Jesus did)

                                            WON'T YOU COME JOIN HIM?
