Daddy Jim

Daddy Jim met Nonnie in Henryetta, Oklahoma when they were 9 years old. They dated through high school. He joined the Army right out of high school and served for 2 years during WWII. Because she was eight months older than him, they married 2 days after his 20th birthday on February 16,1947 in Henryetta, OK., so they would be the same age on the marriage certificate.

After his discharge form the Army, Jim and his father bought a ranch near Albuquerque, New Mexico (where Sherry was born), then moved to Oklahoma where they bought a Dairy Farm. They also raised horses, and Jim was the guy that people brought their horses to, in order to break them for saddles. When Sherry was six, they moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico where they owned a Butane and Propane company. They also raised cattle and soy beans. Ty was born in Tucumcari.

Jim then spent several years working in construction with his brother-in-law. Later he owned his own company, which he and Ty ran for many years. Even though he retired from the construction business, he continued to hone his gardening skills. As family members, we were thankful recipients of those delicious vegetables!

Daddy Jim loved the OU Sooners with a passion. He loved watching them play football, and didn't want anyone talking to him during a game. They had season tickets for a lot of years, and one of the times Texas won, Nonnie said he wouldn't leave after the game, because he was still waiting for the scoreboard to change.

In 2006, at the age of 79, he and Nonnie found themselves unable to take care of a home and yard. Sherry talked them into moving to Dallas to live with her. They moved willingly, but always considered themselves "transplanted Oklahomans".

They loved coming to Calvary Hill to hear Bro James teach and Sherry sing. Daddy Jim also loved to hear Pam Sandlin sing, and he always cried.

After Nonnie passed away in January of 2014, Daddy Jim started having health issues of his own. He often would ask "Why am I still here?", but knew that God had a plan for his life before the foundation of time. He celebrated Easter 2015 with Jesus and Nonnie. He is finally at home.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Helen Ruth (Powers) Hamilton, Parents; Johny and Jewel Hamilton, Two sisters; Virginia Nell Reid and Johnye Sue Gattis.

He is survived by Daughter; Sherry Green and husband Jeff, Son; Ty Hamilton and wife April, 8 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren.
