James Lee Cook, 87
August 23, 1926 - October 16, 2013
Mr. Cook was born in Oklahoma City, OK to Ernest Burl Cook and Alma Marie Waner Cook. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1950, was a 50 year resident of the White Rock area, an accomplished award winning cross stitch and needlepoint artist, and a long time member of St. John's Episcopal Church and the White Rock Kiwanis Club. He served as a 1ST Lieutenant of the Army during World War II in Japan and Korea. Mr. Cook was the nephew of the Waner brothers - Paul "Big Poison" and Lloyd "Little Poison" - of Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fame. He loved golf and vegetable gardening, especially growing tomatoes.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Grace Harper Cook, and his sister Billye Cook Knight. He is survived by his sister Pauline Cook Pryor of Norman, Oklahoma; 4 children: Cindy Cook Wahkinney and husband Dennis of Sachse, Texas, Sharon Cook and husband Robert North Dodson of Germany, Ernest Lee Cook and wife Connie of Dallas, Texas and Staci Cook Klemmer and husband Mark of Lansdale, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren: Anisa Robinson, Chelsi Cook, Jessica Cook, Melanie Cook Bruno, James Cook, Stuart Cook, Joseph Cook, John Mark Cook, Paul Klemmer, James Klemmer; 3 cousins: Lloyd Waner Jr., Lloyd Formby, Lydia Etta Waner; 5 nieces and 3 nephews
A graveside interment service for Mr. Cook will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 9th at Sparkman Hillcrest on Northwest Highway in Dallas.
A celebration of his life will follow at 2:00pm at St. John's Episcopal Church, 848 Harter Road, Dallas, Texas 75218.
