Jackie "JR" M. Simmons, Age 66 of Sachse, TX passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at home in Sachse, TX. Jackie was born January 25, 1957, to the late Jack and Betty Culver Simmons in Wills Point, TX. Jackie grew up in Edgewood, TX. He was a member of Seven Oaks Baptist Church in Wills Point, TX. Jackie joined the Army in 1979. He was sent to Germany and completed his schooling to became an RN. He worked at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany. He also worked at BAMC in San Antonio, TX and William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, TX. He retired from the Army on December 31, 1987, due to Service connected disabilities. He loved the military and still tried to help every soldier that he could and even talked to young men and women about joining the service. After getting out of the military he opened Little Italy Pizza in Edgewood, TX. He made the best pizza in town. He closed the smaller Little Italy Pizza in Edgewood, TX and moved it to Wills Point, TX in the Old Red Barn. With the help of his mother and wife, he served the community a few more years until he could not work anymore. Jackie had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Somehow, he always knew the words to every song he listened to, and we loved to hear him sing at the house.Jackie leaves behind his wife, Rhonda and his son Cody Ryon of Sachse, TX, Sisters, Betty Lynn Thompson and Tye Haake both of Edgewood, TX, Mother-in-law, Maurine Mullins of Sachse, TX, Sister-in-law, Karen (Garon) Blackshear of Greenville, TX, Sister-in-law Sherry Wilson Mullins, of Garland, TX. He had numerous nieces and nephews, Felicha Campbell, Consuela (Andy) Ables, Tonya (Trevour) McCartney, Tara (Branden) Mulvhill, Brandi (Billy) Sweeney, Kristina (Zack) Comeaux, Jacquelynn Washburn, Kathy (Robert) Webb, Gary (Lisa) Mullins, Mark (Audra) Hollis, Steven Hollis, along with many great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Betty Simmons, Sister, Sherry Gail Simmons, Father-in-law, Robert Mullins, Brothers-in-law, Jerry Don Thompson, Mark Haake and Robby Mullins, Nephew, Brian Mullins.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project.
