Jack McClain

January 11, 1915 — August 8, 2016

Jack McClain, 101, of Sachse, TX, passed away Monday August 8, 2016 at his residence. Jack was born in Lampasas Co. on January 11, 1915 to Major Leslie and Amy Lou (Pierson) McClain. His grandparents, Thomas J. and Sarah (Compton) McClain, were among the earliest pioneer settlers in the Pleasant Valley area. Sarah was only 9 years old when she and her parents arrived as members of the 1854 wagon train from Monroe County, Kentucky. Thomas J. farmed, owned a store and was postmaster at Pleasant Valley. He also served in the Civil War and was later active in leadership of the Cottonwood Church of Christ. He and his wife then became active in establishing the Christian Church at Wylie.

Jack always acknowledged his membership in the Christian Church, but was active in the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher for many years and donated the corner lot to the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church after the store was torn down.

Jack’s mind remained sharp and he had a remarkable ability to recall details about the early history of his beloved Pleasant Valley and surrounding area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother; Don McClain and Sister-in-Law; Carla McClain.

He is survived by his 2 Nephews; Stan and (Laura) McClain, Steve and (Diane) McClain.
