Jack Paul Evans, age 79, of McKinney, Texas, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on November 13, 2014. Jack was born May 20, 1935 in McKinney, Texas, to Earl and Ruth (McCown) Evans. He married Peggy (Lee) Evans on May 25, 1957 in Durant, Oklahoma. He graduated from McKinney High School in 1953 and joined the United States Army. During his service, his electrical and mechanical skills assigned him to the Army Ballistic Missile Agency at Cape Canaveral in Florida, renamed Cape Kennedy, where he participated in missile and satellite launching programs, including the first US satellite Explorer I/Jupiter-C Rocket program under the direction of Dr. Werner von Braun, and he participated in atomic bomb testing programs in the Desert Southwest and Pacific.
Jack was employed as an electrical engineer technician at Texas Instruments for many years and was a life-long resident and farmer in Collin County, Texas, well known for his farming business within the community and the Dallas Farmers Market. He served as Worshipful Master at Saint John's Masonic Lodge in McKinney, served on the McKinney ISD Board and was a member of East Fork Baptist Church in McKinney. Jack was a respected man of quiet integrity and loved his family, home and community.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Peggy Evans; daughter Susan Blakey and husband Bob; son Pete Evans and wife Stacy and daughter Beth Evans, all of McKinney; grandchildren, Jack Evans, Katy Blakey Mongaras, Hope Evans, Lewis Whitsell, Allie Smith, Jackson Smith and Ben Vargas; great grandchildren, Cash and Lana Whitsell and Kolby Doxey; brothers, Bob Evans of Garland, Texas, and Carroll Evans of McKinney; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Evans, and beloved son David Evans.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2014, at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas. Burial will follow at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5 to 8 Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to East Fork Baptist Church.
